This line of 100% cotton fiber boards began its first production in 1970. Over the past 4+ decades, Rising has become synonymous with quality, archival framing. The range exceeds the standards established by the Library of Congress, Library Service Institutions and Conservation Laboratories and has become the cotton board of choice by the most prestigious museums, galleries & framers worldwide.
Now stocked in 5 sizes (including the giant 60”x104”), 10 shades (including black) and 3 thicknesses (plys). Rising Museum Board cuts the cleanest bevels with no feathering or blade drag; the surface is level with a slight vellum surface (not smooth) so as not to compete with artwork being matted and framed.
But this range isn’t just for matting fine art. In the 1970s it found success for artists who demanded rigidity and great dimensional stability for a variety of mediums. In fact, Andy Warhol chose Rising for many of his editions of silkscreen prints. Today the range grows in popularity for silkscreen as a result of the breadth of sizes available.
It is a popular surface for colored and watercolor pencil. The surface is not hard or very smooth making it an excellent choice for all drawing techniques. Fine stationers and invitation converters also find the board quite suitable for letterpress, engraving, embossing and foil stamping.
Fair to say here is a range that was developed with a particular market in mind - framing - but given the combination of creativity and a specific need for thicker quality paper surfaces it has found enormous success in other mediums.
